Which Peanuts Character Are You?

Charlie Brown
Good grief!
The dictionary definition of borderline-pathetic optimism, you are Charlie Brown! You constantly strive to do your best, but are rarely met with success and have a tendency to let others walk over you.

United Feature Syndicate says: Charlie Brown wins your heart with his losing ways. It always rains on his parade, his baseball game, and his life. He's an inveterate worrier who frets over trifles (but who's to say they're trifles?). Although he is concerned with the true meaning of life, his friends sometimes call him "blockhead." Other than his knack for putting himself down, there are few sharp edges of wit in his repertoire; usually he's the butt of the joke, not the joker. He can be spotted a mile away in his sweater with the zig zag trim, head down, hands in pocket, headed for Lucy's psychiatric booth. He is considerate, friendly and polite and we love him knowing that he'll never win a baseball game or the heart of the little red-haired girl, kick the football Lucy is holding or fly a kite successfully. His friends call him "wishy-washy," but his spirit will never give up in his quest to triumph over adversity.

Which Mario Character Are You?

Mario
You scored 59% Marioness, 22% Warioness, 23% Peachness, and 30% Bowserness!
You're the famous Mario. You are something of a naive hero, quick to do the right thing but rather uncaring and laidback otherwise. You are fun loving and freedom loving, carefree and happy-go-lucky. When the time comes to save the world from Bowser yet again however, you're ready to fight to the last breath and do the right thing. Way to be the hero Mr Plumber.

DotA, the newest addiction

It's all Bryan's fault...

If not for him, we wouldn't be watching X-men 3 on Friday. We wouldn't have walked into a LAN shop and like a pair of mountain tortoises, asked if they had DotA.

Make no mistake, Bryan was nowhere near us, but it was his fault...

Before we knew it, we lost two and a half hours of our lives, in a deceptively simple looking game.

DotA is a Warcraft 3 map that allows you to control ONE single hero. You join any one of the two factions - Night Elves or The Scourge. Both camps automatically spawn minions that rush along the 3 red lines on the map you see, towards their mutual annihilation. Since both sides produce at the same rate, the fight is an endless tug of war unless YOU - the player, makes a difference.

The Forces of Light have 38 heroes while the Forces of Darkness have 39 heroes to choose from, each having a unique set of 4 powers. Combined with a selection of 6 out of 128 items, it makes for a mind boggling set of possibilities.

*Sigh*

Why did I leave a job I liked for... this?
Oh ya, money...

My chief work now is investigation; Solving weird problems that only users can unearth.
Best thing is; You repeat their steps and nothing is wrong with your results. But something did go wrong! What is it?
I think I miss being a programmer.

Hopefully next month, I'll have a friend and ex-colleague joining me in this project. Our own team is weakened badly by departures. This spells trouble for me in the future.

A little known fact

According to the "Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy", humans are behind dolphins and white mice in intelligence. Don't believe? These were what I overheard recently.

"They're walking in a museum" - A guy explaining to his friend on what was happening, after the characters had been walking for the last 10 minutes.

"The guy has just been killed" - Same guy explaining to his friend on what was happening, after the guy was last saw dead 10 minutes ago.

"What's happening?" - Someone asked when the lead character showed fear prior to entering a confined space.

"What's happening?" - Same guy asked again when the lead character showed fear prior to entering a confined space a second time.

"Oh, they sell ice cream!" - A girl exclaimed after queuing in a line in front of an ice cream vendor.

"Oh..." - By her mother.

"I thought the DHL balloon was filled with hydrogen..." - A girl.

"Do I look YOUNG?!" - A girl complained after being refused entrance to the Da Vinci Code for not bringing her ID card with her.

Giraffe: that drinking place opposite Istana

The setting looked nice and the price was decent, but the ambiance and food was bad.
The merlot there wasn't one of the better ones.
I won't recommend it.

Btw, red wine goes unchilled...

An old favourite

Last thursday, I was having a whimsical mood and recalled this song during work.
In fact, I sent out the below in a text message to some of my friends =)

Oh, give me a home, where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Chorus:
Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

1. My music teacher only taught us these verses.
2. There seems to be many, many versions of this song.
3. My mother is wont to think that I'm listening to a christian song whenever I play something over and over again, thus irritating me right now.

Here's a midi, which is to familiar you with its pacing. Just listening to abit of it is enough.

Some versions I like:

Shields up!

The Board of Film Censors gave a dumb ass excuse for giving a NC16 for a film that was "Only suited for mature audience who can tell fact from fiction"
Other writers bashed [edit]the movie/book[/edit], as it was cool to do so.
Life! upped the competition by posting two 1-sided reviews today.
I quote,
" Now that is insidious, because the gullible, impressionable or plain ignorant may not be able to discern between belief and that which beggars belief. And we know how exciting sensationalist claims can be."
" That's why I think Howard erred when he refused to state clearly, say before the credits rolled, that his film was fiction..."

Such excuses and attacks are insulting as it labels us as immature, gullible and stupid. Oh wow, really? I wonder what this bestselling book is doing in the Fiction section? And I didn't know that a film based on a book of fiction is likely to be a work of fiction as well!

Why?
First we see the bashing of "The Gospel of Judas", now this. I wonder if they realise how stupid they sound and I have never realised so many bigots exist. Perhaps from the same article, I could find some clues?
I quote,
" Will I watch it again?"
" No, because I don't want to wince again at Brown and Howard's nyah-nyah potshots at my faith. Otherwise, it would be like walking past a construction site again after being heckled by twitchy labourers there."
" Brown's fiction may be stranger than truth."
" But instead of making fiction deadlier than truth, Howard's film has just deadened Brown's dodgy derring-dos even more."

Ahh...

A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine goes down...

I have a user who tai-ji-ed me for a few days and it was testing my temper. Finally, I shoved the solution down his throat and he got it at last. But he'll have to talk to his technical guy - James first.
Oh well...

Excel madness

Bzzt...
Remember that in an earlier post, I claimed I don't understand why people whom I have to answer to likes to sit beside me? That was my user and I'm continuing the work today.
Due to the isolated nature of the various systems, I had to shuttle between rooms endlessly, transporting tiny bits of information. One moment I was pulling data out from the production server; Another moment I was matching them using Excel spreadsheets in another room; Formatting them; Collecting the rejects; Rinse and repeat cycle.
The process was so painful and time-consuming that I did not have time to complete my other tasks. Think I'm gonna get some flak for this, "Cannot multi-task ah"?
Yah, I cannot.

You dare stand between me and my seat??!!

Went out with P today after my badminton game. When our train reached Bugis, we saw that a woman and her friend were standing smack in the center of our door on the platform. "Oh great", I thought, "Another one of those people".
The doors opened and they parted slightly to the side, obstructing the outward flow of disembarking passengers. Such behaviour irks us and our solution is to bash our way out. I hugged my badminton bag to my chest and staggered out clumsily, forcing her to retreat a micro-inch. As I passed her, I heard her scold us (passengers) "Faster, faster". I think my face must have registered shock, "What cheek!”
P was behind me. They didn't dare touch a deliberately clumsy 60+kg worth of fats but P must be like a Styrofoam board in comparison. According to him, the woman squeezed past him and gave him a back handed slap on the thigh as he tried the same stunt as me.
Wah biang! You block outgoing passengers, scold them and beat them? Cheek, cheek, cheek!

Can I take this opportunity to appeal to my peers?
Please give way to disembarking passengers.

An annoying caller

9.30pm Call #1
Her: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello?"
[Call disconnects]
Oh great, it's another of those people. Grrr...

Her: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello..."
Her: "Is it blah blah blah?"
Me: "'cuse me? Who are you looking for?"
Her: "Is it Ng?"
Me: "No, sorry wrong number"
Her: "Wrong number ah..., sorry, sorry"
Me: "k..."
[Disconnects]

12.49am Call #3
[Attempted to wake up half the household while I was in the bath]

12.50am Call #4
[Woke up half the household while I was in the bath]
Me: "Hello?" -not recognising the number
Her: "Hello, hello? Is it Ng?"
Me: "No, wrong number"
[I hang up this time]

12.51am Call #5
[Immediate disconnect]

1.00am
Saved the caller as DumbAss and sent out the following sms,
"Please have the decency not to call after 12.
Once again, wrong number. I have held this number for 6 years"

There was no reply, nor do I expect one.
Such people are all the same.

I do not understand why

...big shots like to seat themselves in our room for a meeting?

...guys don't flush when they don the green uniform?

...people whom I have to answer to, likes to sit beside me to "speed up work"?

...promises of "catch up someday" are never fulfilled?

...an excuse for reallocating a gathering date that I've thrown away, gets picked up and used by another?

...older guys have to check out a girl indiscreetly from head to toe, bobbing their heads up and down till the girl moves out of vision range?
p.s. I made some friends promised to kick me if they ever caught me doing that. Please remember your promises.

...people think MI:3 is nice.

Back to the living

I had my first night cycling trip yesterday, the result is a tired and grouchy bear in the morning.

There were 8 of us with the new faces being Rachael and Mike. We had bikes in good condition that had better gears than I was used to.

We started at East Coast Park, to the Waterfront, Nicoll Highway then to the Durian where we rested. To Chijmes then a long trip to Newton and we had supper. Climbed a lot to reach Sentosa. Unwillingly to pay the toll, we climbed Mount Faber where we saw our 4th Merlion for the night.

The hill took most of our strength and we took 1 very long trip back where we had breakfast at McDonalds.

We had good weather and traffic. The negative was cars that ignored our right of way and cut us off dangerously. The highlight was a super-long trailer that flew at us at high speed, blasting its horns and scattering our line with fright. I understand why he had to horn, but it was apparent that he used the horn to scatter us before considering to slow down. In the end, he had to stop due to the chaos he did to our line.

Mount Kinabalu is next...

A big MAY update

I had been burnt twice but on whim, I "signed" myself up for a 3rd outing. Now it's just a few days away and people are dropping out of the list. It almost made me want to pull out as well.
*Sigh*

Work is a bore. There was a bottleneck in the approval process and my program got delayed in its transport. So two days was wasted staring at my monitor.
I hope they clear it tomorrow.

These days, I couldn't get online w/o someone asking me if I had switched jobs. Did I send out negative vibes so strongly? Anyway, to set the record straight, I might see this contract to the end. If they don't offer me good terms, I'm not unduly worried.

Even since I started work, my choice of lunch dropped from 10~20 choices of locations to 1~5 choices of food. Will it be the $2.50 takeaway or the $3.00 takeaway? For the first time in 5 months, I had BK with Kelvin :_) and introduced him to MarioKart.

Everyone seems to be excited about the current political climate. In a detached kind of way, I'm rather amused that for someone(me) who has read avidly on the local ebbs and currents, I feel nothing but apathy. The only thing that bothered me was those stupid tapes below my unit. Typical Singaporean mentality made them cordon off large spaces in the void deck area. I got annoyed enough that I told a friend onboard a train that I'm gonna take down those tapes in a pre-dawn operation. The very next morning, the tapes are tied higher up but now cordons an even larger area! Makes you wonder if the government have spies...

Anyway, here's my progress in MarioKart
