Furore

Someone in my office posted this as his out-of-office message
"I am currently fulfilling my obligation as a NSMen and will return to earn my pay on the @@th of @@@. For xxx matters, please email..."

Boss wanted it changed immediately and obtained the password to the account.

Almost everyone thought, "It's not right; It's not proper; Not good la".
One little kitty replied giddily that she had once done the same thing.
The protagonist was amused but felt a bit sad at the reactions.

What's your take?

    My stance, in short: boss right if this message gets sent to customers, wrong if this message is only for internal circulation. Censorship vs company image.

    He should have worded his words as follow, in order to make everyone happy:

    "Hi there, I'm currently enjoying a [x]-week holiday somewhere on the sunny island of Pulau Singapura/[somewhere else], courtesy of the Singapore Armed Forces. Much as I regret having to leave my truly exciting job to go for this all-expense-paid trip, I'm happy to say that on [date], I'll be back to continue serving you, my dear valued customers/colleagues. In the mean time, you can continue to share the joy by contacting..."

    his boss attitude ? high handed, but fully within his rights as employer.
    lesson ? you boss can see all your mails so do not write things you do not wants published
